Buhdi is the last rescue to join our group. His story is particularly sad because he was actually physically abused and neglected. Buhdi was very timid and he would approach a person very cautiously as if he would be hit at any minute. He is a very sweet pug and absolutely loves attention in fact he's an attention hoarder. I always feel bad when I do something that scares him. For example, I was throwing/rolling a basketball for the pugs and I happened to throw it Buhdi's way. Buhdi just crumpled to the ground as if I was throwing the ball "at" him not "for" him. I felt so bad for him. I am happy to say Buhdi has been with us for over two years now and he is a totally different dog. He is happy and confident, giving kisses to anyone that will take them. In 2004 Buhdi and I started taking obedience classes and then in 2005 we started competing in AKC Rally Obedience competitions. Buhdi passed his Canine Good Citizen test and received his certificate on the first try. By 2006 he had completed both his Rally Novice and Rally Advanced titles. In 2005 Buhdi and I placed 4th in the nation for AKC pugs competing in Rally Novice. We received a 3 foot blue rosette ribbon and a bronze medallion with the insignia of the Pug Dog Club of America on one side and the inscription "For maintaining a score of 98 or above in 2005" on the other. I had considered training Buhdi to be a Pet Partner with Delta Society so we could visit hospital patients but he isn't comfortable enough when he meets new people. He doesn't have the outgoing personality a dog needs to be a good Pet Partner. For now he is a "one person" pug and that's okay with me. One change in Buhdi that makes me feel great is that he now gives kisses all the time. When he first came to our house you could tell Buhdi wanted to give you a kiss but he wouldn't. It was like he was scolded or punished, at his previous home, for wanting to give kisses. That isn't the case any more, Buhdi gives all kinds of sweet kisses and enjoys every minute of it. A very comical personality has come out of Buhdi. I've discovered that he is a total brush hog. If he even sees me get the brush out he'll go nuts. He pushes all the other pugs out of the way and I can barely brush him, he's wriggling around with excitement so much. Also, Buhdi is a talking pug. When he is especially happy Buhdi starts to bite/lick the air and he makes a sort of low "MOW, MOW" noise over and over. He starts with the "MOW, MOW", then it's to "YUM, YUM, YUM" and then back to "MOW, MOW" again, He is very funny and cute. I thoroughly enjoy having Buhdi around. With regard to the spelling of Buhdi's name. I just figured since he had such a common/normal name that I would spell it in an odd way. Thus, the spelling B-u-h-d-i was born. |
